The objective of project activities

is to fill the gaps in providing information about Ukraine, both on the EU and EU capitals level, facilitating Ukrainian experts in presenting their visions, as well as supporting efforts of Ukrainian state agencies in preparation for a start of the membership negotiations process with the EU.

With the start of full-scale aggression, it became apparent that forging stable long-term coalitions with our Western partners is the only precondition for the survival and victory of Ukraine. When it comes to the EU and member states, wartime diplomacy of Ukraine faces two interconnected challenges. On the one hand, the number of cooperation agenda issues has multiplied. On another hand, an expert presence has diminished drastically due to constraints in the crossing border, the number of civic activists joining military service, logistic difficulties of traveling from Ukraine, refocusing on emergency humanitarian activities, etc.

Among 27 member-states, there are certain geographical regions, which due to historical and political preconditions, harbor specific attitudes towards the situation in Ukraine, the future of the EU, and relations with Russia. Regional perspective in dealing with some groups of European states is often overlooked, thus, not benefiting from some possible coalition efforts. Here stand out Nordic states (Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark) and Iberian countries (Portugal and Spain) and Italy.

To meet these challenges, Ukrainian Prism:

  • Launches its office in Brussels to become a platform for the expert presence of Ukrainian analysts, think tanks and civil society activists in the European information space by creating expert platforms and events focused on EU institutions with a Ukrainian profile;
  • establishes stable and regular expert relations and launches annual regional expert forums with Spain, Italy, Portugal, as well as Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in order to form a regular expert presence in key areas of Ukraine's wartime diplomacy (sanctions, military assistance, reconstruction process, sectoral integration, fulfillment of Ukraine's obligations to the EU)
  • strengthens advocacy on Ukraine in individual EU member states by engaging international expert teams in the project's advocacy activities;
  • prepares special political opinions and briefs at the request of European institutions on issues related to Ukraine.
